Year 12 Work over the Christmas holidays:

1.  Continue creating your production pieces for Mrs Haynes.
2.  Write four questions 1 advert and  that you watch over the festive period. 
3.  Answer the questions...!
4.  Write a pitch for your ideas for a marketing campaign for a film that is coming out in 2013.  Post it onto your blog.
Year 13 Work over the Christmas holidays:

Case Study research:
1.  Ensure that you have three films totally sorted and ready to write about!

2.  Post all of your links for websites/fanpages/trailers etc onto your blog (essentially a bibliography)

3.  Compare how two of the products from your case study represent the HERO.  Time yoruself for 20 minutes to answer this.

4.  Revise media theories:  you should spend some time doing this to prepare yourself thoroughly for the exam.

5.  Pick one advert from the TV and analyse how brand values are communicated to the audience.

  2. Findout about the marketing campaigns for all three of your films and post the details of it on your blog.

Create your own reality TV show.  Write a pitch for a new show, either one that is contrived or one that is 'natural'.  In your pitch include: 

  • A title.
  • The premise of it and what each show will contain. 
  • Who your target audience is and why they will enjoy it.

What makes a successful magazine article? 

Task - write a magazine article that addresses an issue or debate in the Media in an anlayticial way, using Media terminology and exploring the debate from different angles.

Examples to pick from:

1.  Representations of Britain: the North South divide. 

2.  British Comedy: has it crossed over to the dark side?  An exploration into how British comedy stopped being funny and started being hurtful. 

3.  Media technology: what does the future hold for the Media and its' hold on us?

4.  Viral marketing - what does the future hold?

5.  The future of cinema:  where will it be in ten years?

6.  The world has had enough: time to say goodbye to reality TV.

7.  Let's Tweet instead of Talk: are we losing the ability to communicate in spoken conversations?

8.  Too many channels, not enough time.  How the Media is making us stupider. 

How to research:
First, find 5-10 examples of texts and ideas you want to write about.  Post them on your blog.
Secondly, re read the Gypsie article to get an idea of the style of yours.
Next, re post the Media terminology that I put on my blog a few weeks ago. 
Finally, write your article, referring back to the mark scheme for your case study question as a way of ensuring you are along the right lines. 
Year 12 - Representations of Class in the Media

Discuss these questions in pairs:

1.  What representations of class do we see daily in the Media?
2.  Which programmes represent the lower classes?
3.  What stereotypes are created by the Media of class?
4.  What's the difference between North and South in terms of class?
5.  What are the main interests of people in TOWIE?  What idologies does it create?  How are these ideologies different from Made in Chelsea?
6.  What marketing have you seen for any of these sorts of shows and what does it tell us about them?

Watch these clips and consider how they represent themselves and what sorts of realities and identities are being constructed.  In what ways are these programmes very post modern?

Lessons until Christmas

Hi year 12 - have a quick read of this as this is what we will be doing for the next 2 weeks:

Lesson 1 - looking at reality TV and it's effect.  Analysis of trailers and reading of article in Media Magazine
Lesson 2  - Creating own idea for a reality TV show and storyboarding
Lesson 3 - Find an article about your own film to use in your research and print and annotate it (and obviously put it onto your blog!)
Lesson 4 - Christmas focused lesson :) 

Hi year 13 - have a quick read of this as this is what we will be doing for the next 2 weeks:

Lesson 1 - representations of Gypises in the Media - mini case study and analysis.  Answering a question onto paper (aaggghhh)
Lesson 2 - Writing articles for Media Magazine about a representation of a debate/issue/minority group in the Media.
Lesson 3 - Back to your case study on film and doing a detailed mini case study about the impact of new and digital media on that specific film.
Lesson 4 - Something Christmas based.
How are Gypsies represented in this scene?
Do you believe that the Media creates unfair representations of certain minority groups?

Year 12 Homework Thursday December 6th.  Answer the case study question below:
In your answer you should:
 ! show how and why media institutions in your case study have been responsive to
change
! support your answer with reference to a range of examples from three media
platforms. (32 marks)

How and why do media institutions continue to change?


The question is asking us to write about how the institutions might change their marketing to a wider audience.  Another thing we could look at is how things are distributed and sold.  Additionally the question is asking us to think about how insitutions have to change their image and also how they might need to change to keep up with new a digital Media.

1.  The Hunger Games  - Lionsgate - have had to use a lot of social Media for their advertising.  Youtube and Yahoo for example throughout the time it was being broadcast in the cinema.
2.  UGC   - websites and virtual worlds.  Website example www.hungergamesarena.com  - people can make profiles and become citezens of the world.   Active audiences nowadays.  They are having to change to build a community and also to engage with audiences who have access to the internet and who want to be more involved with the products.
3.    Paranormal Activity 4 - twitter feed to interact with audiences.  Retweet positive messages that fans give -  U&G theory of interaction.  made by Paramount - a smaller institution, less money, less budget but the film did adapt to a changing of audience expectations. Showed people watching the film in test screenings so people can see others' reactions to it.
4.  Audiences don't have to buy the DVD anymore, they can access it on Love Film etc.   Film companies might have to change the quality of their product to entice people with bluray or High Definition.   Bonus DVDS  - Attack the Block behind the scenes. 
5.  Merchandise - might have to capitalise on selling this.  Hunger Games outfits - (EXAMPLE of most expensive outfit you can buy).
6.  Companies have to make films or extras available for ipads/iphones etc to allow people to access them.
7.  Streaming on the same day as the release date.
8.   Advertising and Marketing - viral marketing.  (FIND EXAMPLES FOR YOUR FILMS).
9.  Using popular culture to promote a film, or using nostalgia to promote.   Institutions might have to move with their audiences so as more people become internet users and become Media litearte, they have a larger pool of people to market to and to connect with. 
10.   More formualic films  - franchises of films that all work in the same way and on the same premise.
